Holocaust Survivors to Speak at Haddonfield Plays & Players Performances of "Number the Stars"

Yom HaShoah, also known as Holocaust Remembrance Day, is Thursday, April 12.

Haddonfield Plays & Players is proud to present Number the Stars, running April 10 through 19. Based on Lois Lowry's novel about the rescue of the Danish Jews during World War II, HP&P has presented "Number the Stars" annually for more than a decade. This year, survivors of the Holocaust will discuss their experiences at the performances.

“Getting to meet the survivors and hearing their stories is what has kept me coming back so many years," said Steve Stonis, who is directing this year's production after many years of involvement with Number the Stars. "Through this program I have met so many amazing, talented people and having the opportunity to direct this year’s production has been an honor.”

"Number the Stars" tells the story of Annemarie Johansen, a young girl who is surprised when her best friend Ellen Rosen arrives in her apartment to spend the night. When two Nazi soldiers appear at the door looking for the Rosen family, Annemarie's parents pretend that Ellen is their own daughter. Annemarie comes to realize that all of the Jewish Danes are in terrible danger, and that it is up to their Christian neighbors to help them escape to neutral Sweden.

Tickets are now on sale for this production at www.haddonfieldplayers.com.
