Calling All Elvis Fans–"All Shook Up" is the Must-See Summer Musical!

Haddonfield Plays and Players continues its 2019 season with "All Shook Up", opening July 11th. Inspired by Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night and built around Elvis Presley’s best-known hits, "All Shook Up" is a hip-swiveling, lip-curling jukebox musical fantasy that’ll have you jumping out of your blue suede shoes with such classics as “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Jailhouse Rock,” and “Don’t Be Cruel.”

“I think we’ll do the King justice in the vocal department,” said the show’s director, Ed Doyle. We spoke to Doyle about the production.

IN YOUR OWN WORDS, WHAT IS THE SHOW ABOUT?

It’s a comedy loosely based on Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. It’s set in the 1950’s and is all Elvis songs. A guitar playing Roustabout rides into a small town and changes the lives of everyone he meets. The show also deals with interracial relationships in the 1950s and other “taboos” of that time.

WHAT MOST DREW YOU TO DIRECT THIS SHOW?

It’s actually a show I didn’t initially know I wanted to direct. I saw two community theater productions of it and enjoyed them both. When I was approached to direct it, I was hesitant at first because the other shows I saw were excellent productions. When I looked over the script I remembered how much fun I had watching it and would like to share that with other people watching.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE MOMENTS OR STANDOUT MOMENTS FROM THE SHOW?

I’m a big fan of the large group numbers. They are a ton of fun. There are also a lot of big voices in the show. I think we’ll do the King justice in the vocal department.

"ALL SHOOK UP" OPENS JULY 11th. TICKETS ARE NOW AVAILABLE.
