The energy was unmistakable the moment the lights dimmed on April 17th. Stage Kidz High School Musical Jr. at Haddonfield Plays and Players didn’t just open to a full house; it played to a completely sold-out run through its final performance on April 25th, a testament to the growing reputation of our education programs and their ability to deliver exciting, crowd-pleasing youth theater.
From the first notes of “Start of Something New,” the cast burst onto the stage with confidence and charisma well beyond their years. What stood out most wasn’t just individual talent - though there was plenty of that - but the ensemble’s cohesion. Every number felt tight, intentional, and joyfully executed, capturing the spirit of the original while allowing these young performers to make it their own.
The leads carried the story with sincerity and charm, balancing humor and heart in a way that resonated with both younger audience members and the many adults in attendance. Meanwhile, the supporting cast brought depth and comic timing that kept the show moving briskly from start to finish.
Production-wise, the show punched above expectations. Creative staging made excellent use of the theater space, while vibrant costumes and fun choreography elevated each musical number - all set upon an incredibly-detailed reproduction of the halls of East High.
